BARBARA DEANE, M.A.
iFor the past 20 years, Barbara Deane has taught intercultural communication,
cross-cultural problem-solving (conflict resolution), and basic negotiation
skills to a wide variety of professionals in U.S. government agencies,
private corporations and non-profit agencies. For the past 10 years,
she has focused on Latin American culture and intercultural negotiation
training. She has hired and co-trained with several negotiation training
professionals. During this period she developed and wrote more than 25
client-specific case studies used for practicing negotiation skills.
She has lived in Mexico for several extended periods over the last
15 years, including March and April of 2002. She has conducted various
projects
involving U.S. expatriates and Mexican professionals as well as interacted
with Mexican organizations and their bureaucracies. She began learning
Spanish in 1974, and has several years of in-country language use.
She recently returned from a three and a half month business-related
tour
of South America that included the countries of Brazil, Argentina,
Chile, Peru. She has also traveled in Spain. Barbara’s undergraduate
and graduate degrees from The Ohio State University and the University
of
Washington in Seattle, respectively, focused on organizational, interpersonal
and intercultural communication.
